The Presumption of Innocence

Part of the very bedrock of our legal system, the Presumption of Innocence provides protection for us all. This principle of law has been traced back past England, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome and, according to some, as far back as Deuteronomy. And yet, I see many of us appear not to believe in a person's right to be considered as innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Remember it was Sir John Fortescue who said, "one would much rather that twenty guilty persons should escape the punishment of death, than that one innocent person should be condemned, and suffer capitally."
